Irvine online marketer clarifies job cuts Posted: 25 Feb 2011 03:04 PM PST Webvisble clarifies job cuts, Irvine plansFebruary 25th, 2011, 2:54 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Mary Ann MilbournWebvisible officials said today that the company has cut 112 positions and closed its Charlotte, N.C. operation but that no decision has been made yet about leaving the Irvine headquarters.
Burr and Geoff Stevens, executive vice president and general manager of global business development, said they wanted to clarify what is happening after company employees told the Orange County Register Thursday that 170 people were cut and the Irvine office would close. "Nobody wants to lay off people," Burr said, "But we need to be operating at a profitable level that is sustainable." A year ago, the company got $20 million in venture capital funding and announced plans to double the workforce to 500 people by the end of 2010. Last spring the company began recruiting 50 new sales reps and in the summer, it expanded into India with plans to grow its staff in Mumbai to 130. "We raised $20 million and the idea was to grow, grow, grow," Burr said. "But not enough attention was paid to how we grew." That came to a sudden halt in October when Kirsten Mangers, the company founder and chief executive, abruptly stepped down and the company announced 40 layoffs. With the cuts that took place in the last week, the company's workforce is now at 130 divided between Irvine and Playa del Rey, Stevens said. Burr said they have 17 people in Mumbai.
