Online recruitment job board, reed.co.uk, announces judging panel for Short Film Competition 2011 Posted: 11 Feb 2011 01:41 AM PST The reed.co.uk Short Film Competition today announced the panel of judges who will select the 2011 winner of the £10,000 Grand Prix. The online competition invites filmmakers to create a short film, centred on the theme, 'Mondays'. Entries must aim to impress the panel and demonstrate fresh thinking with new and creative ideas. The judging panel for the 2011 competition comprises:
The Grand Prix winner will be awarded £10,000, with further prizes of £1,000 to be awarded to additional category winners, including the 'People's Choice Award' and the 'Best Animation.' Oscar Sharp, Director of Sign Language, last year's Grand Prix winner, comments: "As well as the fantastic time we had making the film and, of course, the £10,000 prize money, it's been a great springboard for further success. Sign Language has been shown at a number of festivals, including Hay, Edinburgh and Raindance. It won the Virgin Media Shorts competition and was nominated for a BIFA." Filmmakers have until February 28 to submit their short film to reed.co.uk and be in with a chance of winning the £10,000 Grand Prix. Mark Rhodes, Head of Marketing at reed.co.uk, believes the competition is an excellent way for reed.co.uk to support the arts and expose up and coming UK filmmakers to industry experts. "The talent and experience we're lucky enough to have on this year's judging panel sends a clear message about the importance of supporting the arts and independent filmmakers. "The contest provides reed.co.uk with a platform to support creativity and will help one filmmaker take an important step in their career." Elliot Groves, Founder Raindance Film Festival and British Independent Film Awards adds: "With the death of the apprentice system it's refreshing and encouraging that a company such as reed.co.uk is endeavouring to provide support for emerging talent. I can hardly wait to see the results, for I know I will be pleasantly surprised." Following the February 28 submission deadline, a shortlist of 12 will be selected and put before the panel of judges who'll choose this year's Grand Prix and Judges Commendation winners. The shortlist will be available to view on reed.co.uk and YouTube and the public will be invited to vote for the People's Choice Award on reed.co.uk/film. All winners will be announced by May 2011.
