“District to teach Chinese online” |
| District to teach Chinese online Posted: 12 Aug 2010 07:50 PM PDT Chinese will be taught online this year in Sioux Falls after Lincoln High School's longtime teacher left for another job. Principal Val Fox said the school tried to replace Chengkuan Zhou with another teacher but instead will use a virtual classroom for Chinese I and II classes. Zhou had only 16 students last year in a combined level I and II class at Lincoln High School, the only school to offer the language. He left this summer to teach Chinese full time outside Chicago, Fox said. Twelve students are signed up for the virtual class, Fox said, most of them in Chinese II. She expects the school will continue to offer Chinese only online in the future. Separately, the district has added Chinese to a seventh-grade world languages class this year. The exploratory class already introduces students to Spanish, French and German.
