| Idaho libraries add online job-skills, testing services Posted: 12 Dec 2010 01:55 PM PST Every public, college and school library in Idaho now has access to an online package of materials to help you with job and career advancement, test preparation and skill building. The Idaho Commission for Libraries has obtained a statewide subscription to LearningExpress Library. The LearningExpress Library provides more than 800 work-oriented and basic education resources and more than 150 e-books. They're geared toward both adults and students. Library patrons can use LearningExpress to: Æ Prepare for career certification and licensing exams in high-growth fields such as education, health care, civil service, and the military. Æ Prepare for academic tests such as the GED, SAT, ACT, and GMAT. Æ Find a guide to the steps of the job search process, from creating a resume and honing interviewing techniques to improving business communications skills. Æ Build skills through hundreds of interactive skill-building courses in reading, writing, and math for all ages, as well as more than 50 multimedia computer training tutorials for the most popular office applications. Æ Study at their own pace interactively with instant scoring, and diagnostic feedback. Idahoans don't have to go to the library to gain access to the LearningExpress offerings. If they have a computer with an Internet connection, they can accessed them through the state Library Commission site at http://lili.org. The offerings from LearningExpress LLC are part of a two-year project the state library commission has launched to provide statewide online resources for K-12 students, expand broadband connectivity and public computing capacity in Idaho's least-connected public libraries, and provide library-based workshops centered around online and e-government resources. The project is funded with federal economic-stimulus money. "One of the commission's highest priorities is building the capacity of Idaho libraries to help their clientele obtain the 21st century skills required by today's employers and academic institutions, enhance their careers, and get back to work," said State Librarian Ann Joslin.
