Job seekers in need of computer training will be able to get specialized assistance at WIN Job Centers in Waveland and Pascagoula.

The Mississippi Department of Employment Security recently announced a partnership with Digital Opportunity Trust USA's TeachUp! Technology Empowerment Program.

TeachUp! interns will work with clients at 17 WIN Job Centers throughout the state, including Waveland and Pascagoula, and teach computer skills and resume writing.

The TeachUp! interns also will provide assistance with online job searches and setting up e-mail accounts.

"We realize some of our customers are not yet computer literate or Internet savvy," MDES executive director Les Range said in a press release.

"Having TeachUp! interns in our WIN Job Centers provides an excellent opportunity for our clients to learn computer skills and for these interns to gain teaching experience."

DOT USA's TeachUp! program was launched in 2006 to help Mississippi and Louisiana schools recover from Hurricane Katrina and advance their technological education.

The interns are technological-savvy professionals who've committed to spending a year helping communities across the state, said Nuria Arias, DOT USA executive director.

Arias said the TeachUp! interns will guide out-of-work individuals who may not be familiar with using technology to gain employment.

"It's no longer knocking on doors and applying for jobs face-to-face," she said.

"This one-on-one training will open new employment doors, teaching our clients how to apply for jobs online," Range said.
