TUARAN: Employers in the state are told to post job vacancies in Jobsmalaysia to reach out to more local job seekers. Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Haji Hajiji Mohd Noor said the online service is opened to everyone regardless of their academic qualifications and status.

He noted that there are 15 Jobsmalaysia points at all Labour Department offices in the state including one at Wawasan Plaza in the state capital. He said this when launching the Job Placement Programme in Tuaran yesterday.

He acknowledged that among the challenges faced by the government is unemployment and imbalance of supply and demand of workforce.

"To overcome this problem, the private and public sectors must cooperate," he advised.

He also advised job seekers to change their mindset particularly that concerning their choice of work place which they prefer "to work close to their home". "We need to sacrifice a bit if we want to have a better job. In Tuaran, job opportunities are limited."

In relation to this, he told job seekers to first explore job opportunities that are available in the state before considering those in other states or abroad.

He said there are plenty to choose from especially in the industrial and agriculture sectors which openings could be filled by locals.

He advised individuals who are tempted by high salary offers from jobs in foreign countries to be very careful by contacting the Labour Department to find out more information and advice. He noted that there had been cases where Sabahans have found themselves cheated by such offers.
